NOWHERE IN THE WORLD
( J. Wilson)
© Ochiltree 136 Publishing (2007)
I’m running scared on a dark street in London
I lost my senses at the basin of the Nile
From Damascus to the desert I resign,
to walk to you should it take a million miles
I sing a hymn from Tyrone to Donegal
A midnight sun crosses me in Skagway
I weep alone at the gate of Calais;
a silent prayer to hold you for another day
Is there nowhere in the world I can go
to wrest away from the nearness of you?
Is there nowhere on this earth to be free?
My heart is shackled to the essence of your love
I try earnestly to follow the plot at the Raj Mandir
I feign interest in the pointilles of Vermeer
A faithless reading of the works of Marquez;
so distracted am I with the vision of your face
I’ve lost my faith – I’ve lost my reason to believe
I’ve lost my way – a broken wayfarer of the seven seas
